The Importance of Staying Grounded in a Time of Crisis

Protecting yourself in the face of this ongoing viral crisis means many challenges. So we would just like to remind you that Earthing is one very reliable, simple, and powerful way to support and bolster your health. Earthing drains your body of inflammation, pain, stress, and fatigue. As you know, it is as as simple as walking or sitting barefoot outdoors or, most conveniently, using grounding products indoors while sitting or sleeping.

Whatever measures you follow to protect yourself, be sure also to sleep grounded and ground yourself during the day as much as you can, too. People sleep better when they are grounded. It is hard to sleep when you are in pain, and grounding quickly relieves the inflammation that causes pain and involvement with infections. Grounding also promotes normalization of the stress hormone cortisol, and reduces stress.

So many systems in the body are brought toward balance, as this diagram below indicates, resulting in fortification of the whole body.

Earthing and Respiratory Distress

Recently, Clint Ober, the founder of the Earthing Movement, received an email from a lawyer whose wife developed Coronavirus symptoms:
“We had to hit pause on business like everyone else this week, but I truly think it’s time to get the word out about your amazing products. Wanted to let you know that my wife has the virus…and a grounding patch on her chest has helped her immensely.”

Please keep in mind that Earthing research is in an early stage. There have been more than 20 studies published over two decades, but no investigation yet has explored Earthing’s impact on viruses. Promising, however, is feedback over the years that Earthing has often helped reduce colds and flu, and made a dramatic difference in situations of respiratory distress, including severe asthma, COPD, and flu.

Earthing’s Potential against Inflammation

Experts have described the presence of “cytokine storms” among patients with severe viral symptoms. Cytokines are proteins produced by the immune system that help it coordinate the body’s attack against an infection. In order to knock out an infection, the body may produce too many cytokines, creating a “cytokine storm,” too much of a good thing, so to speak. Such levels of cytokines can trigger systemic inflammation, pneumonia, acute respiratory distress, and liver failure. Such levels do collateral damage to healthy tissue.

The immune system attack dogs unleashed in this inflammatory chaos are called reactive oxygen species (ROS), also known as “free radicals.” ROS are positively charged unstable molecules seeking electrons, that are negatively charged. Overproduction of ROS by the immune system also results in multiple inflammatory-related disease such as arthritis, arteriosclerosis, type II diabetes, and inflammatory bowel disease.

Research indicates that grounding rapidly reduces inflammation, and the pain that it produces, even within a half hour. We believe this rapid response is based in part on the large influx of electrons into the body from the Earth that electrically neutralizes ROS. It is hard to imagine another mechanism that reduces inflammation except for this neutralization. Here is an example of Earthing’s quick effect on inflammation, as seen through thermographic imaging:

Thermal imaging cameras record tiny changes in the temperature of the skin. This creates a color-coded picture. Tissue damage causes increased heat, thus hot areas in the pictures indicate inflammation. The images shown here were taken a half-hour apart—before (left) and after grounding (right). They show rapid reduction of inflammation in a woman with significant chronic bilateral knee pain originating with an injury sustained while using a ladders during a construction job. She reported 20 percent improvement within 30 minutes of grounding, and continued improvement with continued nightly grounding with patches and a mat, and within three months 90 percent of her pain was gone.

An unlimited “sea” of sub-atomic anti-inflammatory, antioxidant electrons on the Earth’s surface from the 3 billion lightning strikes annually and other atmospheric phenomenon gives the surface of the planet its negative charge. When you ground yourself, your body absorbs the electrons from the Earth, and you boost the body’s ability to reduce inflammation, the primary cause of many diseases and accompaniment of injuries. The Earth’s electrons from grounding serve as “reinforcements.”

Another likely way that Earthing reduces inflammation is through the vagus nerve that extends from the brain-stem into the abdomen, and is a major part of the autonomic nervous system. The nerve serves most organs in the body including the gastrointestinal and cardiovascular systems, and the lungs. During the last fifteen years research has revealed that the vagus nerve plays a major role in the so-called “anti-inflammatory reflex,” a mechanism that controls basic immune responses and inflammation during pathogen invasion and tissue injury. Among other things, the nerve’s actions help to inhibit excessive production of pro-inflammatory chemicals. Previous grounding studies have documented a significant impact on the vagus nerve, both in adults and babies.

Get grounded (if you are not already) and stay grounded. Now, and beyond the current crisis.

We strongly believe that individuals who are grounded stay healthier. Those who are ungrounded are missing the Earth’s healing energy. Earthing restores it. The Earth is Nature’s original anti-inflammatory.

The discovery of Earthing has opened an extraordinarily large frontier of natural healing possibilities. If you don’t know much about Earthing and how to apply it in your life, please refer to the “What is Earthing” and “Getting started” articles on the Earthing Institute website.
